2022/04/14The Yomiuri Shimbun Online posted an article on April 4th, 2022, about the effects of Cybernics Treatment on ALS patients from the National Hospital Organization Niigata Hospital. They conducted Cybernics Treatment for patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) who have difficulties walking. As a result of Cybernics Treatment with Medical HAL Lower Limb Type, the distance the patient could walk on their own in two minutes increased by 25% on average. It is believed that the neural connections were regenerated by repeated walking without putting strain on the body. Dr. Takashi Nakajima, neurologist, and director of Niigata Hospital, said, “Other than HAL, there was no other treatment proven to improve gait function.

Dr. Takashi Nakajima, MD, PhD and currently director of the Niigata National Hospital graduated from Niigata University, School of Medicine in 1983. He completed the PhD program of Niigata University in 1991 following the positions of Chief of Department of Neurology, Radiology and Clinical Research of the Saigata National Hospital until 2003. He went on to be guest lecture of the Brain Research Institute and a specialist for the Pharmaceutical Medical Device Agency. His research areas include neurology, neurorehabilitation, biomedical information, clinical trial design and palliative care.
